Maternity photography

When during pregnancy should I book a maternity session?

The flattering window for maternity portraits is 28 to 34 weeks. Earlier than 28 weeks and the bump often isn't as defined as you'll want it to be in photos. Later than 34 weeks and many moms are tired, swollen, or cutting it close to labour.

If you're expecting twins or a larger baby, we usually shoot earlier — around 26–30 weeks — because the bump arrives sooner.

Book your maternity photographer in Surrey 6–8 weeks in advance. Our 28–34 week calendar fills fastest in spring and summer.

What should I wear for a maternity shoot?

We have a full maternity wardrobe in studio — flowing gowns in jewel tones, neutral knits, and form-fitting dresses — so you don't have to buy anything. Most moms try on 3–4 looks and usually pick the two that feel most "them."

If you'd prefer to wear your own: bring something form-fitting that shows the bump shape clearly (a bodycon dress, a fitted top with fitted pants, or a partner's dress shirt for a classic "pregnancy silhouette" shot). Avoid loose flowy maternity tops — they hide exactly what we're here to celebrate.

Can I do a couples, family, or outdoor maternity session?

All three, yes. Our Surrey studio sessions are indoor, clean-background, editorial-style. For outdoor maternity photography in Surrey, Vancouver, Langley, Richmond, or Coquitlam, we shoot at locations like Crescent Beach, Queen Elizabeth Park, Deas Island, or anywhere meaningful to you — though outdoor sessions are seasonal (late March through early October is typically best in the Lower Mainland).

Partners and older children are welcome. Family maternity sessions are one of our favourite things to photograph.

Can I bundle a maternity session with a newborn session?

Yes, and most of our clients do. Bundling the two usually runs $800 + gst, please check our package here and it locks in your newborn date before your due date, which removes the scramble of trying to book a newborn photographer in the first two weeks of a newborn's life.
