We usually recommend taking pictures of newborns up to 15 days, when the baby has enough flexibility for the most beautiful poses, in addition, the baby sleeps more hours in a row.

Newborn Session Prep Guide

What you need to know before your little babe’s studio photo shoot.



On the Day of the Session:


Please feed your baby right before leaving for the session. Once you arrive at the studio, we may do a small top-up feed if needed to ensure your baby is nice and full before we begin.


We will start with your baby’s portraits right away and finish the session with parent photos. Dress your baby in loose clothing so it will be easy to undress baby without waking him/her (zipper onesie). Stimulate & keep baby awake for an hour or so before the session. This helps make baby extra sleepy for the session & when baby can get in a deeper sleep, it makes posing & going from one set to another easier. A warm bath is a great way to do this as well as talking & interacting with baby while keeping he or she in just their diaper.


FEEDING: When feeding your baby, please take your time and make sure your baby gets a full feeding. I like to use the term “milk drunk, ” meaning your baby eats until he falls into a deep sleep. It is so important to make sure baby has a full belly to get those sleepy baby poses. A hungry baby will not pose and will remain unsettled during the session.


If you are nursing and pumping, please bring a couple of bottles of expressed milk. If you are using formula, please bring extra formula! More than you think you will need! Babies tend to feed more than usual at the session.


There is no need to bring anything for baby to wear. We provide all the wraps, headbands, hats, clothes & props. Unless there is something special you want to bring for your newborn’s photos, don’t worry about outfits. If there is something special you want to bring, be sure to let me know so I can work a set around it.


When baby needs a break, we’ll take a break. Don’t stress if baby gets fussy. If baby needs to stop to eat or have their diaper changed, we most definitely will. Most babies need to eat at least once during their session. It’s hard work looking that cute.


Please bring pacifier, it is must even if you haven't introduce or baby don't like it.

When is the best time for newborn photos?

The ideal window is 5 to 14 days after birth. During this time, babies sleep deeply and are flexible enough for gentle poses. We recommend booking while pregnant to secure your spot.

What do I need to bring?

Just your baby (and yourselves)! We provide all props, wraps, headbands, hats, and blankets.

Is flash photography safe for newborns?

Yes, when done correctly. We use professional continuous studio lighting, not harsh flash, and keep all lights at safe distances from baby's eyes.

Do you photograph parents and siblings too?

Absolutely. Family images are included in mini and complete newborn session at no extra charge.

How soon will I receive my photos?

Edited photos are delivered within 3 to 4 weeks via an online gallery.

Do you serve areas outside Surrey?

Yes — we welcome clients from Langley, Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, Coquitlam, Delta, and across the Lower Mainland.
