At what age is a cake smash session best, and what's included?
First birthday is the classic moment — around 11 to 13 months, while baby can sit up confidently but isn't yet running away from the cake. We also shoot 6-month milestone sessions and half-birthday smashes.
How messy does a cake smash actually get?
Messier than the Instagrams suggest — and that's the fun. Some babies dive face-first in the first 30 seconds; others poke the cake once and look at you like you've lost your mind. Both make great photos.
We put down a wipeable tarp, plan for one outfit change, and have baby wipes at the ready. Bring a hooded towel and a change of clothes for the car ride home.
